Il Mais MON810 è stato ottenuto tramite trasformazione con il vettore plasmidico PV-ZMBK07, introdotto nel genoma di cellule di mais con la tecnica biolistica.

Caratteri modificati

Nel genoma del Mais MON810 è stato introdotto, insieme ad altre sequenze, il gene cry1Ab, derivante da Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. Kurstaki.
Il Mais MON810 esprime la proteina Cry1Ab che, essendo tossica per i lepidotteri, conferisce alla pianta la capacità di resistere agli attacchi di lepidotteri dannosi.

Scopo della modificazione

Produzione di una varietà di mais GM resistente, in particolare, alla Piralide e alla Sesamia.
